Last night Ben came in the house telling me he had something to show me....I cautiously meandered upstairs to find a little baby duck in his hands. It wasn't really ugly, I just had to come up with a title! :) I thought it was really cute, so I held it and brought it downstairs with me to see if we could find a box so we could keep it. I put it down and the little guy just ran right into the storage room....good thing i was watching it, or it would have died in there! So anyway, I asked Ben how he caught this little mallard duckling and he said it was running down the street all alone - it's probably only a couple of days old! Poor little guy! So, we gave it grass and water and it seemed very happy, even at 4:30 in the morning. But, at 8:00 this morning, when I got up, it was a different story. It wasn't dead, but pretty close, it didn't even move when i picked it up, but after it had some water, it seemed to perk up a little, until it didn't take it's head out of the water dish! So anyway, at around 8:45 this morning, our brave, cute little duckling took it's last breath....
I'm a little worried though, if I can't even keep a duck alive one night, how am I supposed to keep a kid alive... Dad always has good advice - " Don't feed it grass or let it swim in it's water dish, at least not until it's a little older...." haha, dad, funny!

Do ducks eat grass??? Maybe you should have caught your duck some fish. You and Ben are great fishermen!
ReplyDeletethey sure do eat it! - it's just supposed to be a temporary supplement, till you can get them something better.... but, apparently, it's a very SHORT time you have to get "real food"... and, Ben said the same thing today a/b the fish, although that would require ME actually catching the fish! :)
